Winnipeg trucker Komalpreet Sidhu arrested for smuggling 406.2 kg meth into Canada

WINNIPEG: Indo-Canadian Punjab man Komalpreet Sidhu, 29, of Winnipeg has been arrested in the largest narcotic haul in the history of Manitoba, Alberta and Saskathewan.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized 406.2 kilograms of methamphetamine packed in large suitcases inside Sidhu’s commercial truck on January 14.

The value of the seized contraband is said be to over $50.7 million.

The drug haul was seized when Sidhu’s semi-trailer entered the port of Boissevain from the US.

Sidhu was carrying the shipment to Winnipeg.

“This is the largest seizure of illegal narcotics to occur in the Prairie Region (comprising Alberta, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg provinces). The driver was carrying a shipment destined for Winnipeg,”  said the Canada Border Services Agency in a statement.

Sidhu has been charged with importing methamphetamine and possessing drugs for trafficking.
