BRAMPTON: The trial of Brampton trucker Upkaran Sandhu, 28, who faces charges of careless driving that killed a woman in Inglewood, started on Feb 9 when the accused appeared in Caledon East provincial offenses court.

Sandhu was driving south on Hwy 10 on August 19, 2020, when his dump truck reportedly hit a woman's car at the intersection with Olde Base Line near Inglewood.

The woman, who was identified as Patricia Lopez, 50, died from injured caused by the collision.

Sandhu was arrested by Caledon OPP and charged with careless driving causing death, but his trial could not start as CVID restrictions delayed court proceedings.

At his court appearance on Feb 9, the court set June 15 as the date for hearing the case. The trial will take place on October 13, 14, 27 and 28.

If found guilty, Brampton trucker Upkaran Sandhu could face up to two years in jail, fine up to $50,000 fine, and a five-year license ban.
