The Canadian Bazaar Expatriates seeking jobs in the United Arab Emirates will now have to produce a certificate of good conduct - or character certificate - before they can get UAE work permit. The new rule kicks in from February 4, says a report in the Gulf News.

The certificate of good conduct must either be issued by home country or the country where the expatriate lived for the past five years.
The certificate will be attested by UAE diplomatic missions or oversees Customer Happiness Centres at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The rule is aimed at making the UAE as one of the most secure countries in the world, says the report. Those on a tourist visa don't need to produce the certificate.
