News East West NEW DELHI: In this shocking incident reported in the media, Punjab Police DSP Gurmeet Singh Kingra is seen  jumping into the Bathinda branch of Sirhind Canal near Ludhiana in Punjab to save a drowning woman teacher on Sunday. The woman teacher was among her four colleagues who jumped into the canal after police reportedly cane-charged them for protesting for better wages, regularization of their services and release of their detained colleagues. The incident happened when about 400 teachers were planning a sit-in (dharna) near the incident site on Bathinda-Goniana Road. When the police reportedly told them to disperse, arguments broke out between the two sides. • Murali Krishna J Manchur: The teachers saved should have gratitude to these policemen throughout their lives. The policemen could have been there to just pay condolences later. Great policemen. Great humanity.
