News East West MUMBAI: Shahrukh Khan often speaks about his late parents. King Khan, who lost both his parents even before he came to Mumbai in 1991 and went on win fame and super stardom, says they went very early. “Talking to boys on the sets…we talked of our parents. Miss my parents now on the drive back from the shoot. They went too early,” tweeted 48-year-old Shahrukh on Saturday. Shahrukh was just 15 when his father Taj Mohammed Khan died of cancer. Then in 1990, he lost his mother after prolonged illness. At the time of his mother’s death, Shahrukh was a small-time actor doing roles in TV serials such as Fauji. Shahrukh said, “When my father died, I didn’t cry. I was one of the pall-bearers. But I felt cheated despite the fact that he had prepared me for his death.’’ About his mother, he said, “My mother’s death made me realise that nothing is permanent. I cried a lot. And now nothing shocks me. That is why I don’t give a damn about anything. If I can live without her, then I can live without stardom, money…anything.’’ Shahrukh’s father had moved from Peshawar to Delhi before the Partition. He grew up in Rajendra Nagar, and studied at Delhi’s St Columba School and then Hansraj College before he joined the National School  of Drama in the national capital. He joined Barry John’s  theatre group in 1988 and Fauji was his first TV serial. He moved to Mumbai in 1991 and also married his college sweetheart Gauri Chhibber – a Punjabi Hindu – that year. Interestingly, Salman Khan was his best friend when Shahrukh moved to Mumbai. In fact, Salman Khan helped Shahrukh and Gauri settle down in B-Town. Shahrukh has an elder sister Shehnaz and three children – Aryan, Suhana and AbRam.
