SkyLink CEO Surjit Babra gets World Travel Market Globe Award for charity

Agencies TORONTO: SkyLink CEO Surjit Babra has been given the prestigious World Travel Market (WTM) Globe Award in recognition of his charity work in Canada and around the world. The award was presented on November 7 at the just concluded leading global event for the travel industry, held in London. Babra’s name was shortlisted from the entries given by the Canadian Travel Press. A press release by WTM said the impact of Babra’s work and philanthropy can be felt around the world, specifically in Canada where he regularly supports children’s charities and hospital and youth organizations. He also helps some of the world’s most vulnerable or developing areas. For example, SkyLink continually provides funds to oneprosper.org for drip irrigation farming in India as well as contributes to and supports charities that rescue young women from street life in India. According to the press release, SkyLink has internationally made donations of medicines, equipment, relief funds, food, supplies and more to the following countries after war, natural disaster, political strife, and times of great need: Georgia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Maldives, India, Palestine, Iraq, Mauritius, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Chad, Sudan, North Korea, Afghanistan, the Ivory Coast, Italy, Samoa, Vietnam, Haiti, Moldova and Uganda, Kyrgyzstan. "Surjit has dedicated his business and life to humanitarian efforts since the early 1990s, this commitment to those people around the world less fortunate than himself deserves recognition. His charitable giving and philanthropic efforts is a life-long venture, not a one time project,’’ said Fiona Jeffery, Reed Travel Exhibitions chairman, presenting him the award.
