Sukhdippal Singh Matharu took $35,000 from the victims and stopped all communications with them after taking the money

The Canadian Bazaar BRAMPTON: Sukhdippal Singh Matharu, a 45-year-old man from Brampton, has been charged with mortgage services frauds. He allegedly defrauded his clients to the tune of $35,000. Sukhdippal Singh Matharu has been operating out of Popular Mortgages, located at 1315 Derry Road East, Mississauga. A second location appears to be associated with Popular Mortgages at the Newin Shopping Center, located at 2580 Shepard Avenue, Mississauga. According to the Fraud Bureau of Peel Regional Police, between March 2017 and February 2019, several victims paid money to the mortgage consultant who agreed to process mortgage applications for them. The victims were encouraged to pay in cash. Once the victims had paid him the money, Matharu ceased all communication with them. The victims later learned that no work was ever completed. Matharu, who was arrested on July 14 and charged with fraud, will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Brampton on September 21. Peel Regional Police say that there may more victims of the fraud, urging the public to be vigilant about fraudsters who target people in vulnerable situations. The Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) of Ontario has also warned the public that Sukhdippal Singh Matharu and Popular Mortgages are no longer licensed to conduct mortgage business in Ontario. People are advised not to engage in mortgage business with him or Popular Mortgages, FSRA said in a statement.
