Web Desk TORONTO: Toronto businessman Roy Singh, who has big plans to bring T20 cricket to Canada, has sought support from the Brampton mayor to fructify his plans. Brampton, on the outskirts of Toronto, has one of the largest concentrations of the south Asian population in Canada. In his meeting with Brampton mayor Susan Fennel, Singh, who is the CEO and founder of the Canadian Premier League T20, discussed the idea of building a top-notch cricket stadium in the city. Singh, an entrepreneur with interests in gold exploration in South America, presented the mayor his plans to build the stadium as a permanent fixture of  T20 cricket in Canada. Fennell, who herself is a great sports lover, told Singh, ``I have already inaugurated a top-class football stadium last year in Brampton and this year have gone on to launch the best international facility for hockey for the pre- qualifiers of the Pan Am hockey tournament which took place recently in our City of Brampton.” She also spoke about the plans already underway to build a cricket facility of almost 300 acres in the city. The mayor promised Singh all support in his efforts to kick off the proposed Canadian Premier League T20. ``I have the land, the political will and the determination to have the best international cricket stadium to be built here in Brampton. And together with private investment led by Mr. Roy Singh we will make it a reality,’’ Fennell told Singh. She wanted to know how the planned cricket stadium would like so that the very best features could be incorporated into it. Since Brampton has a huge south Asian immigrant population with interest in cricket and kabbadi, the mayor said, ``I always have an ear to the ground and listen to people’s needs – they said they wanted a facility for international kabbadi games and I gave it to them as well as the much needed state of the art hockey arena.” Mayor Fennell said her city is debt free and no taxpayers’ money has gone into these ventures. It is because of private and corporate enterprise that the City of Brampton has built itself a reputation in the arena of sports facilities, the mayor said. Singh said Mayor Susan Fennell has a thorough understanding of how sports leagues and franchise teams work and their business implications for her city.
