The Canadian Bazaar TORONTO: Toronto Police said on Monday that last Friday’s reported incident in which a scissor-wielding Asian man allegedly cut an eleven-year-old Muslim girl’s hijab when she was on her way to school never happened. Khawlah Noman, the grade six student of Pauline Johnson Junior Public School, said that when she was walking to the school with her brother, a man with scissors attacked her from behind, cutting the bottom of her hijab. She said the man ran away only to return again to cut her hijab. She said when she confronted him, he ran away. The whole incident narrated by the girl before TV cameras drew condemnation from across the country and the whole political class, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Opposition leader Andrew Scheer, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and Toronto Mayor John Tory. Toronto Police, who were investigating the alleged hate crime, said on Monday that the incident didn’t happen. ``We had, as everyone knows, allegations of an extremely serious crime on Friday which we investigated - we had a team of investigators who put together a significant amount of evidence and they came to the conclusion that the events that were alleged did not happen,'' Toronto Police Service spokesperson Mark Pugash told CTV. Now look at the reaction of Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne! She said she is relieved to know that the alleged incident never happen. ``I'd like to thank the Toronto Police Service for their work in this matter, and I join all Ontarians in being thankful and relieved that this assault did not take place," Wynne said. But Madam Premier, if it was a hoax, as the Toronto Police say, why is there no word by you on it? Expect other politicians - national and provincial - also to come out with similar statements. If there no hate attack, why did this girl concoct it? Children often do play pranks, but this one is very serious. Did someone else motivate her to play this hoax? Toronto Police and school authorities should go to the bottom of it.
