University of Toronto set to welcome international students again

Toronto university international students make up a quarter of its student population

The Canadian Bazaar TORONTO: With students from foreign countries making up about a quarter of its student population, the University of Toronto is set to welcome more international students enrolled with it after easing of  COVID-19 travel restrictions on Tuesday. "International students are an integral part of the University of Toronto community and their presence greatly enhances the experience of all students and faculty,” said U of T President Meric Gertler. "We appreciate that all three levels of government have worked with universities to find a comprehensive solution to bring these students into the country safely at this challenging time.” Hundreds of international students who are enrolled at U of T but did not have a study permit issued prior to March 18 when border restrictions kicked in, have been studying online from their home countries. On arrival, Each student will be quarantined for 14 days. U of T says it has a detailed plan to help international students safely enter the country and quarantine once they reach Canada. The plan includes includes helping students develop a quarantine plan, picking students up at the airport and providing space to quarantine on campus or at downtown hotels, where students receive meals and daily check-ins from health and wellness staff. Students will also be tested for COVID-19 in accordance with health guidelines. Toronto university international students make up about a quarter of its student population.
