US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard weds in traditional Hindu ceremony

News East West America's first Hindu Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, 33, married Abraham Williams, 26, in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Hawaii on Thursday. Held in the backdrop of the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean at Oahu, the wedding ceremony was conducted by a Pandit amid the chanting of Hindu mantra. Tulsi wore an indigo coloured wedding gown while the much younger groom was dressed in white. From India, the wedding was attended by BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, who brought a gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Indian acting ambassador Taranjit Sandhu also flew in from Washington for the wedding. Tulsi Gabbard's wedding ceremony. Tulsi is one of the five children of Carol and Mike Gabbard who subscribe to the Brahma Madhwa Gaudiya Sampradaya. Like herself, Tulsi's four siblings carry Hindu names - Bhakti, Jai, Aryan, and Vrindavan. An Iraqi war veteran with two deployments in the combat zone, Tulsi took her oath to the US Congress on the Bhagwat-Gita and later presented that copy to Prime Minister Modi when he visited the US last September.
